The design of the BYD ATTO 3 blends culture with modern lifestyles.

EXTERIOR
Perfectly proportioned in a design led by BYD’s Design Director, Wolfgang Egger, the BYD ATTO 3, with its distinctive sloping silhouette, has been optimised for aerodynamic efficiency with a drag coefficient of just 0.29Cd.

The design is a fusion of Chinese culture and modern European tastes, adopting the next evolution of the BYD Dragon Face design language, which takes inspiration from thousands of years of Chinese culture. The BYD ATTO 3 features expressive lines and front ‘facial’ design cues inspired by ancient dragons, such as the LED headlights and horizontal brushed grille bar, symbolising the mythical creatures' eyes and moustache.

“The BYD design is expressive and emotional, as well as clean and relevant. We were inspired by the Chinese dragon, which we call the Dragon Face Design Language. The dragon’s distinctive moustache, the skin and the dragon eyes are all elements that are portrayed in the BYD ATTO 3”, says BYD Design Director Wolfgang Egger.

Measuring 4455mm in length and 2050mm wide (with exterior mirrors unfolded), the BYD ATTO 3 enjoys a 2720mm wheelbase which is optimised for space and comfort.

Every exterior detail is perfectly sculpted and balanced with subtle aluminium accents that emphasise the BYD ATTO 3’s fun personality. The aluminium roof rails accentuate the sloping roofline, punctuated by the brushed aluminium trim at the C-pillar.

The BYD ATTO 3 has distinctive automatic LED headlights and features High Beam Assist, LED daytime running lights and a rear single-row LED lightbar at the rear extending the width of the car.  Electrically folding and heated wing mirrors complete with downlights are standard across all models.

The BYD ATTO 3 (Design) has an electric tailgate, for ease of use and convenience and electric heated AND folding door mirrors.
The eye-catching 18-inch black and silver alloy wheels equipped with Continental 2335/50R18 tyres are used to stunning effect, giving the BYD ATTO 3 a sporty, youthful vibe.

Embracing the active theme and the love of the great outdoors, BYD ATTO 3 is available in five vibrant metallic colours: Surfing Blue, Climbing Grey, Skiing White, Parkour Red, and Exploring Green.

 
INTERIOR
The modern, sporty interior encapsulates a multi-sensory, high-tech experience with unique gym-inspired design touches, such as the barbell-style door handles, kettlebell-style gear selector, and free-weight-style air vents.

“Designing BYD ATTO 3, we wanted to create a very fresh, spacious and youthful feeling to attract young people and families.” says BYD Design Director Wolfgang Egger.

With seating for 5 occupants, the ergonomically designed sports seats and headrests (front and rear) are made from sustainable vegan leather. The multi-tonal seats add the wow-factor to the interior, with intricate red stitching for a stylish and sporty finishing touch, while being designed for comfort. The heated front seats have a six-way electric adjustment for the driver and a four-way electric adjustment for the front passenger.

The rear seats provide generous legroom for passengers, made possible by the flatter e-Platform 3.0. The seats can be split 60:40, allowing the 440-litre boot to be expanded to 1,338 litres when both seats are folded flat.

As well as the multi-functional vegan leather steering wheel, there is a 5” TFT full LCD instrument panel and a brushed metal centre console. The central armrest, inspired by a treadmill, provides storage and a smartphone wireless charging docking station.

As standard, a panoramic glass sliding sunroof with a sunshade makes the cabin light and airy. Multi-coloured mood lighting creates the perfect ambience and even responds to musical rhythm to make the cabin come alive even further. The rear mirror dips automatically to reduce headlight glare.

BYD is the only manufacturer to design and manufacture the core components of the electric car, owning the vertical supply chain for seamless integration and total manufacturing control, including the production of semiconductors. BYD e-PLATFORM 3.0
Leading the next generation EVs for safety, efficiency, intelligence and larger cabin space featuring the world’s first mass-produced 8-in-1 electric powertrain system, with overall efficiency surpassing 89%.

BYD e-Platform 3.0 has been designed to provide outstanding advantages in safety, intelligence, efficiency, and aesthetics, as well as performance. Launched in September 2021, integration is a key factor of BYD e-Platform 3.0. Core features at the heart of the e-Platform 3.0 are the Blade Battery, the world’s first mass-produced 8-in-1 electric powertrain and the high-efficiency heat pump. The innovative 8-in-1 electric powertrain integrates the Vehicle Control Unit; the Battery Management System; the Power Distribution Unit; the Drive Motor; the Motor Controller; the Transmission; DC-DC; On-Board Charger. Such deep integration delivers 89% system efficiency and includes the driving and braking functions, with an advanced powertrain domain controller for the rapid response and full utilisation of the electric motors.

BYD’s cockpit domain controller and body domain controller are already in mass production. As for software, BYD has independently developed the BYD OS which decouples hardware and software, offering an elite collaboration system for high levels of intelligent driving. Such domain architecture provides the foundation for safe and intelligent driving. 

Safety is a top priority for all BYD innovations. Benefiting from the ultra-safe Blade Battery, the flat elongated design also improves the structural rigidity of the e-Platform 3.0 in the event of a collision. With a force transmission path exclusively for EVs, the e-Platform 3.0 provides better protection. BYD e-Platform 3.0 features a ‘multi-load path’ structure controlling how energy is absorbed by the car in the event of a collision, minimising intrusion into the passenger cabin. Passenger protection is further enhanced by a reinforced body structure with high torsional rigidity.

The BYD e-Platform 3.0 is also designed for efficiency. Pivotal to this is the 8-in-1 electric powertrain, reducing energy transfer loss with a comprehensive efficiency of up to 89%.

It also features the industry’s first direct cooling and heating system for power batteries, increasing thermal efficiency by up to 20% in the winter. The innovative system leverages the residual heat from surroundings, the powertrain, passenger compartment and even the batteries, and can work at a wide range of temperatures. Intelligent thermal management for extreme weather conditions enables an excellent low temperature driving range.

Developed exclusively for pure-electric vehicles, the e-Platform 3.0 is leading the way for the next generation of intelligent electric mobility. Improved intelligent experiences enable faster responsiveness and enhanced safety in extreme conditions. The e-Platform 3.0 is an evolution from distributed to centralised electrical and electronic architecture, dramatically enhancing computing power to build a rich cloud-based application ecosystem.

A highly scalable platform, it allows the flexibility of two-wheel or all-wheel driving. Additionally, the e-Platform 3.0 creates a brand-new body structure, with shorter front overhangs, longer wheelbase, lower centre of gravity, more space, sense of movement and dynamics, as well as a drag coefficient (Cd) as low as 0.21. The flat rear floor, made possible by the longer length and space saving Blade Battery, creates more rear passenger space.
 
OPEN PLATFORM, HIGHLY CONFIGURABLE:
Given the adaptability of the e-Platform 3.0 for vehicles of varying sizes, it will be open to the wider industry to facilitate the co-development of intelligent EVs worldwide.

BLADE BATTERY
BYD ATTO 3 utilises ground-breaking battery technology. The revolutionary ultra-safe Blade Battery provides new levels of safety, durability, and performance as well as increased battery space utilisation.

The Blade Battery uses Lithium Iron-Phosphate (LFP) as its cathode material, which offers a much higher level of safety than conventional lithium-ion batteries. LFP has inherently excellent thermal stability and significantly, is cobalt-free. LFP is also a very durable material.

BYD has for over two decades been pioneers in power battery development. 27 years on, with over 3.5 million battery-powered cars produced for customers, BYD is firmly established as a market leader in this field and the world’s largest manufacturer of Lithium Iron-Phosphate batteries. Born out of this relentless research and development, and a major advancement for the EV industry, is the ground-breaking Blade Battery, an innovation launched by BYD in March 2020.

One of the major concerns in the EV sector is battery safety. The Blade Battery has been developed to mitigate this, and takes battery safety to a new level, while offering outstanding strength, range, longevity and power. It is a battery that is ultra-safe with an ultra-strong structure for durability, while also offering ultra-long range and ultra-long lifespan. Safety is enhanced by the longer, flatter design for improved space utilisation of the battery pack.

The Blade Battery has undergone the most stringent of safety tests, surpassing demands of the Nail Penetration Test, the most rigorous way to test the thermal runaway of batteries. The Nail Penetration Test simulates the effects of a severe traffic accident and is considered ‘The Mount Everest’ of battery tests. During the Nail Penetration Test, the Blade Battery didn’t emit smoke or fire, and the surface temperature reached just 30–60 degrees centigrade. It also passed other extreme test conditions, such as being crushed, bent, being heated in a furnace to 300 degrees centigrade and overcharged by 260%. None of these resulted in a fire or explosion, making BYD Blade Battery a front-runner in safety for the fast-growing EV market.

Efficiency and longer range are further benefits of the Blade Battery, providing more power density for optimum performance and efficiencies, including faster charging. BYD Cell-to-Pack (CTP) technology makes all the difference, with the Blade Battery increasing space utilisation by 50%. This improves energy density and allows more batteries in a compact space with a longer driving range. The ‘honeycomb-like aluminium’ design of the Blade Battery also provides greater rigidity and safety.

Combined, this integrated technology has been developed to deliver optimum performance and a better driving experience. With the 60.48 kWh Blade Battery combined with a permanent magnet synchronous motor, the BYD ATTO 3 can accelerate from 0 to 62 mph in just 7.3 seconds. The 310 Nm of torque provides seamless performance helping the BYD ATTO 3 reach a maximum top speed of 99 mph. There are four driving modes: Sport Mode, Normal Mode, Economy Mode and Snow Mode to suit driving conditions and preferences.

BYD ATTO 3 has a reassuring WLTP electric range of 260 miles and 351 miles city range with energy consumption as low as 3.98 miles/kWh (WLTP) and 5.17 miles/kWh (city). Charging power is 11 kW AC 3. High performance is also achieved when it comes to recharging. With a 150KW DC charger, the battery can be replenished from 30% to 80% in just 29 minutes. Overnight charging from an almost empty battery to full can be reached in just 6.5 hours. All BYD ATTO 3 models are also equipped with VtoL so external devices can easily be charged by the car battery.

DRIVER ASSISTANCE AND SAFETY
BYD is committed to innovation for safer driving, which is why the BYD ATTO 3 has a comprehensive suite of standard equipment. BYD ATTO 3 scored Five-Star Rating in Euro NCAP Safety Tests. It achieved a score of 91% for adult occupant protection and 89% for child occupant protection.

There is an abundance of safety and advanced driver assistance technology as standard equipment in the BYD ATTO 3. All models feature Forward Collision Warning, Automatic Emergency Braking, Rear Collision Warning, Rear Cross Traffic Alert and Rear Cross Traffic Brake, Lane Keep Assistance, Lane Change Assist, and Emergency Lane Keep.

In addition, further driver aids include Blind Spot Detection System, Electronic Stability Program, Electronic Brake Distribution, Electric Parking Brake, Antilock Braking System, Automatic Vehicle Hold, Traction Control, Hill Decent Control, Traffic Sign Recognition, Intelligent Speed Limit Information, and Intelligent Speed Limit Control.

Adaptive Cruise Control and Intelligent Cruise Control assist comfort. The panoramic camera provides 360-degree visibility for the driver for safe vehicle manoeuvring, with two front and four parking radars.

Cutting-edge lighting technology also provides a broader beam of light to assist visibility when driving at night, with High Beam Assist, Adaptive Front Headlights and Follow Me Home as standard.
 

INFOTAINMENT AND CONNECTIVITY
Smart connectivity and leading infotainment are other primary elements of the BYD ATTO 3, which is equipped with DiLink 4.0 (4G) intelligent connection system bringing leading technology experiences, and Over the Air (OTA) updates as part of the iCloud service.
GPS Navigation features as standard. A focal feature inside the BYD ATTO 3 is unique the 12.8 rotatable touchscreen (15.6 inch on Design versions) with voice recognition delivering an abundance of connected experiences, and integrated Apps including Apple CarPlay.

The eight-speaker Performance Audio System provides premium quality sound, and smartphone wireless charging is another convenient feature, perfect for listening to DAB+/ Radio or personalised playlists through Bluetooth Music.

BYD CONNECT APP
The BYD Connect App for smartphones provides real-time vehicle status information, allowing users to remotely activate and control key functions. From remotely checking battery charge levels and driving range, to remote climate pre-conditioning and door lock/unlock controls, BYD Connect App with regularly updated Over-the-Air (OTA) features, ensures the car is ready for an electric journey ahead.
