12 May 2026 BYD, the global leading manufacturer of New Energy Vehicles, will be in attendance at the SMMT Test Day 2026 with six cars to drive, showcasing the best of the company’s plug-in hybrid and fully electric technology.
The annual event, hosted by the Society of Motor Manufacturers & Traders at UTAC Millbrook in Bedfordshire on 21st May, will offer journalists, content creators and industry experts the opportunity to drive a total of six BYD models, including all of the latest additions – all of which will be available to drive on the road route.
Following on from its UK launch in early April, the newest car on the stand will be the ATTO 3 EVO, which is bigger, smarter and faster than its predecessor. Among its significant changes under the skin, the ATTO 3 EVO benefits from a 220kW charging speed – double the speed of the outgoing ATTO 3. Storage space has grown 145 litres over the model it replaces, thanks to a 50-litre improvement in the boot (now 450 litres) and the addition of a new 95-litre frunk. Power is increased to as much as 443PS in the range-topping Excellence trim, which enables a 0-62mph time in as little as 3.9 seconds. Plus, in addition to these technical improvements, the ATTO 3 EVO is the first BYD in the UK to benefit from Google Automotive Services, which means that Google Maps, Assistant and access to the Play Store are all built-in.
Further EVs in attendance highlight BYD’s broad spread across the market. The SEAL saloon has gained a mid-life update for 2026, which brings with it increased storage capacity, new colours and wheel designs, plus improved driver assistance technology.
At the entry point to the BYD family is the DOLPHIN SURF; the tech-packed supermini starts from just £18,675. It will be available to drive in its mid-level Boost trim, which offers a range of up to 200 miles.
Sitting between those models is the ATTO 2. At 4.3 metres long, the ATTO 2 competes in the compact SUV class, blending the practicality of a 450-litre boot with an electric range of up to 261 miles (WLTP) courtesy of a 64.8kWh battery.
Beyond BYD’s fully electric family of models, SMMT Test Day will be the perfect opportunity to sample the brand’s Dual Mode plug-in hybrid technology, with two models to choose from. The SEALION 5 joined the range in January and is already proving to be a popular choice with buyers thanks to its space, equipment levels and fuel efficiency. Its DM-i powertrain combines a 197PS electric motor and a battery capacity of up to 18.1kWh with BYD's Xiaoyun petrol engine. The 1.5-litre, Atkinson-cycle four-cylinder unit is the most thermally efficient internal combustion engine in its class, which enables the SEALION 5 to achieve a weighted fuel consumption of up to 134.5mpg and an electric-only range of up to 53 miles.
Like the SEALION 5, the SEAL 6 also uses DM-i technology to achieve superb efficiency. When combined with a 19kWh battery, it is capable of a combined petrol and electric range of up to 903 miles in saloon form. Attendees will be able to drive the spacious Touring, which brings the added benefit of a spacious 500-litre boot.
Finally, there will be one further model joining the BYD range. DENZA, the premium sub-brand of BYD, will be represented by its new flagship model. The Z9GT will be presented on static display ahead of its UK launch in the Summer.
And if that’s not enough to whet your appetite, the BYD stand will be providing mouth-watering Asian-inspired catering for attendees.
