BYD launches new DOLPHIN Cargo e-Van with class-leading electric range

  • DOLPHIN Cargo e-Van enters the small commercial vehicle market with a class-leading full electric city range of 347 miles*
  • Conversion of the DOLPHIN hatchback into an LCV is carried out in the UK
  • Latest BYD offering carries over the same comprehensive levels of equipment as the standard base car, with over 1,090 litres of load space
  • Available to order now via participating BYD retailers in the UK, priced from £29,358 (excluding VAT)

BYD, the world’s leading new energy vehicle manufacturer, presents the DOLPHIN Cargo e-Van: a versatile and flexible compact vehicle for commercial fleets.

Taking the award-winning DOLPHIN hatchback as a starting point, the conversion into a light commercial vehicle (LCV) is carried out in the UK, supporting local engineering expertise while ensuring the vehicle is tailored to meet the specific requirements of British commercial operators.

The changes involve permanently removing the rear seats and installing a full metal bulkhead behind the front seats, freeing up a generous load capacity of 1,093 litres (including a 47-litre underfloor storage space). The maximum load length is 1,250mm, while the minimum load width (between the wheel arches) is 1,018mm, with a maximum width of 1,160mm – all within the DOLPHIN Cargo e-Van's compact 4,290mm length. The maximum load height is 710mm.

The phenolic ply-trimmed flat load floor area – complete with additional underfloor storage and modular subframe – is complemented by hardwearing door cards and a bumper protection film to offer robustness for all types of businesses. Added security can be provided by a number of rear window options including polycarbonate panels.

Built on the acclaimed BYD DOLPHIN passenger car platform, the DOLPHIN Cargo e-Van combines a robust commercial conversion with class-leading electric vehicle performance, delivering an ideal solution for modern fleet and business users. Powered by a 204PS electric motor paired with a 60.4kWh battery, it offers an impressive WLTP range of up to 347 miles in urban driving and 265 miles combined, helping businesses maximise efficiency while reducing operating costs. An optional 70 mph speed limiter will also be available to support fleet optimisation and energy management.

At the heart of the vehicle is BYD’s industry-leading Blade Battery technology, which uses Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) chemistry. Completely free from cobalt, the Blade Battery is designed to deliver enhanced durability, improved safety and greater resistance to extreme temperatures compared with conventional battery technologies.

The DOLPHIN Cargo e-Van's specification is based upon the DOLPHIN Comfort trim level, and as such its equipment levels go above and beyond the technology many commercial buyers will expect. Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) technology enables the new car-derived van (CDV)  to supply power directly to external equipment, supporting applications such as mobile servicing, site maintenance, portable lighting and tool charging without requiring additional power sources.

A heat pump, heated steering wheel and heated front seats (which improves vehicle battery efficiency by heating the driver and not the load), a 360-degree parking camera and smartphone mirroring via Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, are also standard.  To meet the diverse needs of commercial operators, BYD can also facilitate a range of bespoke upfit solutions, including reversing alarms, amber warning beacons, vehicle livery and customised storage configurations tailored to customer requirements.

The DOLPHIN Cargo e-Van is available to order now through participating UK BYD retailers priced from £29,358 excluding VAT (£36,305 including VAT), with fleet support available for corporate customers via the BYD UK Corporate Sales Team.
