BYD New Generation Electric Yard Tractor Enters Europe
16 September 2024 BYD, the world’s leading manufacturer of new energy vehicles, introduces the new generation BYD EYT 2.0 Electric Yard Tractor to Europe at IAA Transportation 2024.
Designed for European use with many enhanced features and aesthetic updates, it is set to revolutionize operational productivity in environments such as ports, terminals, logistic intermodal parks and general distribution as they transition to eco-friendly electric solutions.
The robust BYD EYT 2.0 Electric Yard Tractor benefits from BYD’s expertise in pioneering Blade Battery technology, which prioritizes safety, energy efficiency, durability and performance. Ease of maintenance is also integral to the BYD EYT 2.0. The BYD EYT 2.0 is powerful, yet agile and very manoeuvrable, with the ability to tug substantial containers and trailers with ease. It offers a long working time of up to 16 hours* and 216.7kW of electric power, with the convenience of efficient quick charging between shifts for optimal productivity.
Modern aesthetics embrace new energy philosophy
The BYD EYT 2.0 adopts a new design concept, giving this practical vehicle a distinctive style, that evokes its new energy credentials while still retaining its signature offset cab. Using new BYD design language, it features BYD’s distinctive X design front face along with a robust front grille and muscular air intake vents, which give the vehicle more dynamic styling, further accentuated by a contrasting two tone body and bumper.
BYD Blade Battery Technology developed for safety, energy efficiency and power performance
At the heart of the BYD EYT 2.0 is BYD’s highly acclaimed Blade Battery bringing world-leading durability and safety in battery technology, as well as high power density. The BYD Blade Battery has surpassed rigorous tests, including the punishment of the Nail Penetration Test, considered the most challenging of all. Cobalt-free, the BYD Blade Battery uses Lithium Iron-Phosphate (LFP) as its cathode material, which offers a much higher level of safety than conventional lithium-ion batteries. LFP has inherently excellent thermal stability.
The 216.7 kWh BYD Blade Battery also benefits energy density, performance and efficiency, with charge to power up to 16 hours of working time. It produces a peak motor power of up to 260kW, with easy operation two-gear AMT transmission, delivering impressive performance. The BYD ETY can be DC charged (up to 130kW) between shifts (20% to 80%) in just one hour.
Robust, with exceptional pulling power and swift hook-up
The BYD EYT 2.0, with a high-strength rigid frame, is a real powerhouse, with a Gross Combined Weight Rating (GCWR) of up to 75t. It has been designed for strength and operational efficiency, running smoothly and with stability, even with heavy loads. It utilises innovative integrated bridge technology and a 5th lifting wheel for ease of coupling and decoupling. The axle wheel ends, leaf springs and steering tie rods all adopt maintenance-free structures via a centralized adaptable lubrication system of the lifting wheel mechanism. The 5th lifting wheel has a ground clearance height 1155mm or 1080mm (depending on variant), a wheel lift height of 850mm and a lift weight of 22000kg. Towing capacity is up to 64800 kg.
Grip coupling valves are located at the rear of the vehicle for easy operation by the driver and can be hooked up in less than 15 seconds. This feature makes the BYD EYT 2.0 the perfect partner for the swift loading and unloading of bulk cargo in busy ports, terminals and distribution centres.
Manoeuvrable with agile, stable turning and safer braking
The short wheelbase makes light work out of cornering, reducing the need to reverse repeatedly, therefore saving time, improving safety and making driving an easier task for the operator. Navigating narrower more confined spaces is also simplified. There are other features too. EBS braking, Traction Control and ESC supports safe braking and more stable driving on all road surfaces and in varying driving conditions by monitoring steering wheel angle and vehicle longitudinal and lateral acceleration. Drag Torque Control (DTC) helps to avoid the drive wheels slipping when on low traction surfaces.
Excellent visibility, superior comfort driving experiences, enhanced safety
The quietly operating BYD EYT 2.0 Electric Yard Tractor provides a new level of comfort for drivers, through the addition of rear air suspension to reduce vibration. The insulated cab also helps to reduce noise levels, while also being more spacious with an inner height of 1.9m allowing the driver to stand upright. The light and airy interior is simplistic, yet comfortable, with the curved dashboard controls arranged for driver ease and ergonomically designed ventilated heated seating which is also fully adjustable to suit the driver’s preference. There is also air-conditioning/climate control, DAB Radio, Bluetooth connectivity.
Two-gear AMT produces a smooth gear change and there is also a dual source electric steering system, for easier driving. A sliding rear door makes entry and exit easier. There is also innovative tilting cab functionality for maintenance accessibility.
Safety is also enhanced in the new BYD EYT 2.0. The cab design enables a wide field of vision and there is a rear sliding door, which can be used as an emergency exit. The cab structural design passes R29, ROPS, FOPS regulatory requirements. The heated interior rear-view mirror can be adjusted internally for improved visibility, as well as the external wing mirrors.
BYD’s Electric Yard Tractor is also equipped with a comprehensive range of driver assistance and safety equipment, as well as controls to monitor vehicle status, such as tyre pressure monitoring. There is an overcharge reminder, undervoltage reminder, temperature reminder, and system failure warning. It is also equipped with reversing sensors, and a VDO Tachograph.
Versatile in varying climatic and environmental conditions
Durable in extreme climatic environments ( -20℃ to 50℃), the BYD EYT 2.0 has also been designed to endure the test of time with a vehicle life expectancy of more than 10 years.
