- BYD DOLPHIN SURF takes runner-up spot in Best Budget Car Award
03 December 2025 BYD has enjoyed big success in the 2025 Car of the Year Awards from the online retailer cinch. Crowned the UK’s most exciting car brand, it also received honours for the SEALION 7 as Best EV and a runners-up title for the DOLPHIN SURF in the Best Budget Car category.
Announcing BYD’s success as 2025’s Most Exciting Brand, cinch motoring expert Ben Welham said: “It’s no secret that BYD is taking the UK by storm. It keeps delivering standout electric and hybrid cars, time after time - and we had no hesitation about making it our most exciting car brand of 2025. It’s remarkable how fast it’s adapting to the UK market and we sense this is just the beginning.”
Bono Ge, Country Manager, BYD UK: “This is much-valued recognition for our brand-building programme in the UK. We are committed to giving customers a great range of products that reflect our status as the world’s leading manufacturer of new energy vehicles, providing the best technologies to our customers and staying innovative. The past couple of years have seen a rapid expansion of our model range with eight new introductions – and there’s much more to follow in 2026, including the arrival of the SEALION 5 DM-i and ATTO 2 DM-i and the further development of our nationwide dealer network.”
Alongside BYD’s brand achievement, the Best EV award went to the SEALION 7. Welham explained: “We fell in love with this car on first drive. The ride is comfortable, it eats up the miles with a minimum of fuss and has an abundance of clever tech, not least the rotating infotainment screen. The drive is effortless, the interior is spacious and it has an impressive range for an EV.”
Introduced to the UK in spring 2025, the SEALION 7 all-electric mid-size SUV has proved an instant sales success, helping accelerate BYD’s share of the new car market to record levels. Offered with a choice of battery capacities and front or all-wheel drive, it reaps the benefits of BYD’s cutting-edge EV technology to offer up to a 312-mile driving range (WLTP), poised handling and sporty performance.
The strength-in-depth of BYD’s fast-growing UK line-up was reflected in the DOLPHIN SURF, its smallest current model, taking a runner-up spot in the awards’ Best Budget Car category, acclaimed for being “bang-on for what budget buyers are looking for”.
